In 2013, the minister of culture of the
Wallonia-Brussels Federation picked the (SIC) project to represent the French
Community of Belgium at the 55th Venice Art Biennale, in the offsite section.
The project consisted in setting up a residency in Venice for about fifteen
Belgian artists from June 1 to September 30, 2013. The artists were invited to
come separately and spend about ten days there creating a new work for
inclusion in a collective book to be published at the end of the residency. The
artists also posted photographs, videos, drawings, texts etc. on a collective
website. Unlike their individual projects for the book, their contributions to
the website were anonymous and, taken together, formed a sort of patchwork
portrait of the city of Venice and its imaginaire.
With the contributions of Jan Baetens, Claude Cattelain, William Cliff, Lara
Gasparotto, Pierre Gérard, Louise Herlemont, Guy-Marc Hinant, Jean De Lacoste, Pierre
Lauwers, Messieurs Delmotte, Christophe Terlinden, Jean-Philippe Toussaint,
Thierry Van Hasselt, Raphaël Van Lerberghe, Thierry Zéno
